I have been working in the fashion industry for the past 20 years. My love affair with fashion and sewing began in 5th grade when my mother taught me how to taper my 501 Levis. This was a real game changing moment for me. As the youngest of four children, I inherited a closet of hand-me-downs, mostly of the undesirable type. Learning how to take something dorky and turn it into something cool within minutes was nothing short of miraculous. I've never possessed a spend thrift budget, so repurposing used clothing has been a life long hobby.
After working in New York for many years for Dana Buchman and Nanette Lepore, I returned to my hometown of Seattle, along with my husband and three kids. I then worked for Nordstrom Product Group as both a designer and design director for 4 years, but left in late 2015 to spend more time with my family.
MARZdenim was born out of a recent trip to a Mexican resort. I was inspired by the white painted trunks of the palm trees (an insect repellent, I believe) all around the resort property. When I returned home I thought it might be fun to mimic the look with an old pair of jeans. After altering the fit to something more flattering, I dipped the hems in some old house paint. While wearing them out soon after, I received numerous complimentary shout outs from strangers on the street, some inquiring where they could get a pair! With this label, I feel I've returned full circle to my tapered Levis. The timing feels right, too, since there's a sense of nostalgia in the air for 100% cotton real denim jeans -- especially after years of jeggings.
I have been an Etsy member since 2009, but this is my first Etsy shop. Thank you for visiting it! Please favorite my shop to receive updates on additional listings and products!
